Reserved amounts on Mastercard / VISA debit card

Reservation on Debit Card – How Does It Actually Work?

Are there funds reserved on your card even though we have canceled your order or sent your goods and charged the money? Here you can read why.

When you buy something online with a Mastercard (or VISA Electron), the money is not withdrawn immediately, and since you cannot withdraw more money than is in the account, it is necessary for the card issuer to reserve the purchase amount to ensure the money is there when it needs to be withdrawn from the account.

Bullet Points:

  • A reservation on a debit card will always be 30 days even if the payment is canceled
  • Only your bank can lift the reservation
  • To lift the reservation, you simply need to send documentation that the payment has been canceled to your bank – then they can remove the reservation

Unfortunately, the system is so poorly designed that even if we as a webshop cancel your payment, Nets / the bank does not delete your reservation on the card. Only the bank can ask Nets to lift the reservation on the card.

How to Lift the Reservation on Your Card

You need to contact your bank advisor and provide information about the transaction, which will usually be the purchase date and amount. Additionally, you need to provide documentation that the order has been canceled / the purchase has been canceled, such as an email from us or similar.

How Long Are the Funds Reserved?

The funds are typically reserved for 30 days, after which the reservation is automatically lifted.
