Apparently, there is a widespread misunderstanding about the new legislation, so I simply have to make this post, as the communication is obviously not straightforward for everyone
On December 20, 2023, a new “Notice on the design and equipment of vehicles, etc. – No.: 2040” will be issued – a new announcement from the Danish Road Traffic Authority regarding changes in legislation and inspection –
Section 6A here deals with retrofitting LED bulbs in lights that are not approved for LED – such as halogen or other types.
“SECTION 6
6a. Installation of LED light sources without E-approval in an e-approved vehicle
According to current regulations for lighting lamps, it is not allowed to use any other lamp (light source) than the one the lamp is designed for or e- or E-approved with.
New possibility for approval of LED light source in lighting lamps………”
Note the first line here:
“6a. Installation of LED light sources without E-approval in an e-approved vehicle”
This line contains a small error because it says “in an e-approved vehicle” and this is completely irrelevant since an E-approved lamp will always be installed in an E-approved vehicle – therefore, the Danish Road Traffic Authority writes to the inspection stations on December 21 or 22 (can anyone verify?) at 11:37 AM with the following message:
“Dear inspection companies
There was an error in the combined notice item 6a about LED lamps.
It mentioned something about an e-approved vehicle, but this is actually irrelevant, because cars generally must have e-/E-approved low beam lamps and light sources already from 1/1-1971, and the following text is stated in the Guide on vehicle inspection regarding lighting lamps (item 6.02.001 (2), page 180):
It is not allowed to use any other lamp (light source) than the one the lamp is designed for or e- or E-approved with.
The corrected Notice (without anything about an e-approved vehicle) is posted on our website, and it is also attached here.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year”
The Danish Road Traffic Authority is trying to explain here that there was a trivial error regarding the phrase “in an e-approved vehicle” – the new document is completely identical – just without this sentence = it has no change or significance for the legislation – it is solely a wording change!
