Information about the different types of sound insulation / damping:

Vibration Damping:

These plates are typically made of aluminum sheets with butyl, which is extremely sticky and makes installation easy. Vibration damping plates can be installed anywhere in the car and dampen resonance and road noise.

Sound Insulation:

These flat foam boards are typically used as an extra layer over the vibration damping. The sound insulating boards reduce airborne sound and can dampen engine noise as well as road noise. At the same time, these can also be used as insulation against heat/cold. Sound insulation boards are typically used on floors, roofs, hoods, and cabin walls.

Sound Damping:

The sound damping boards are typically egg carton shaped and absorb/dampen unwanted high/mid frequencies and can be used on the car's side panels as well as on the roof. The sound damping material can also be advantageously used as a layer between interiors to prevent rattling and other unwanted noises in the car.
